Stereochemistry Tutorial

The Stereochemistry Tutorial is an interactive animation that provides practice on assigning R and S stereochemistry and determining whether two compounds are identical, constitutional isomers or stereoisomers (enantiomers or diastereomers). Chem21Labs animations provide a safe environment for learning . . . . students receive "full credit" when they complete the animation correctly - it does not matter how many times they miss part of it and have to start over. This animation is typically a lecture assignment, but can be assigned as a post-lab activity for a lab dealing with stereoisomers . . . . assigning the same interactive tutorial in lecture and lab is a great way to "connect" the learning between the two classes.

  • Students must correctly assign the stereochemistry of two compounds AND the stereochemical relationship of eight compounds to complete the tutorial.
  • If the student incorrectly answers a question, they must restart the animation.
  • Students receive "full credit" when they complete the animation correctly - it does not matter how many times they must restart it.
  • The Flash version of this interactive animation is shown below . . . . the updated HTML5-JS version is under construction.
